Active programme

Clean cooking. Local waste treatment. New value for schools.

A practical school-energy opportunity aligned with Kenya's Government clean-energy and school-greening direction.

Why this matters nationally

The Ministry of Education's 2026 Solarization and Greening Programme includes kitchen-energy systems alongside lighting and electricity. It refers to 3,213 schools and provides a five-year bank financing framework. Kenya is advancing tree planting, climate action and cleaner energy while schools remain major users of firewood for cooking.

Solar can support electricity. LushBert biogas can support cooking energy and local food-waste treatment.

Your school owns the plant. LushBert manages it.

A LushBert biogas system turns school kitchen and food waste into clean Cooking Gas (Heating and Hot Water), fertiliser and possible additional income. LushBert supplies, installs, commissions, operates and monitors the plant — including robotic support for routine tasks, gas-bag filling, sales records and alerts. Your school does not need to become a plant operator, gas retailer or fertiliser-selling organisation.

Five ways the programme can create value

1. Local waste treatment

Kitchen and food waste is treated at school instead of remaining a continuing disposal problem. Any disposal-cost effect is verified by the school audit.

2. Lower fuel costs

Biogas can replace purchased firewood and/or LPG. Schools already using LPG may have a stronger economic case.

3. Fertiliser value

The process produces solid and liquid fertiliser that can be used by the school or sold where practical.

4. Gas sales in vacations

During weekends and school holidays, surplus biogas and fertiliser may be sold where permitted. On-site biogas storage may also be possible.

5. Possible carbon-credit income

Carbon credits may add further value. This remains indicative and depends on approved methodology, verification and market conditions.

One standard school solution

Three plant sizes are being assessed for different school cooking demand and organic-waste volumes. The school owns the asset; LushBert carries the operating responsibility.

Bank financing and payback potential

A five-year bank financing framework is available for the programme. The school's repayment capacity can be supported by avoided firewood and/or LPG purchases, fertiliser value, surplus-gas sales during non-school days and possible carbon-credit income.

Depending on actual fuel prices, school size, waste volumes, gas output and local sales demand, a school may have the potential to repay the investment within the five-year financing term. Every school must first be assessed using real records — not assumptions.

Your roadmap: from first click to your plant

  5. LushBert and the bank — quote and approval
  6. Step 4: LushBert prepares your quote

LushBert prepares a quote for the investment at your school and, where appropriate, presents it to the financing banks to see whether they are ready to finance your project.

    LushBert Bank

  7. Step 5: The bank decides

If the bank approves your project, it gives the green light and informs LushBert.

  8. Step 6: LushBert informs you

We tell you, the principal, about the bank's decision.

  9. Decision point

    Now the decision is yours

Everything now depends on you and the decision makers at your school. You have the final say: move ahead, or not.

If you want to move ahead, first get in touch with LushBert and tell us your decision.

  10. If you say yes — from approval to operation
  11. Step 7: LushBert visits your school

We check the local situation on site, so that there are no misunderstandings and the project is completely valid as described and financed by the bank.

  12. Step 8: Financing contract

After this final check, the school contacts the financing institution to prepare the contract documents, so that payment can be made and LushBert can order the plant.

  13. Step 9: Plant ordered, site prepared

Once LushBert orders the plant, we discuss with you, step by step, how to prepare for reception, installation and commissioning, so the school can arrange everything.

  14. Step 10: LushBert runs the plant

Once the plant is installed, LushBert manages operation and maintenance, including through the humanoid robot. All details are shared in the meetings with LushBert personnel at your school.

What your school should have

Reliable records

Actual weekly, monthly or yearly spending on firewood, LPG or other cooking fuel.

Organic waste

Regular kitchen food waste — or access to nearby market waste where appropriate.

Site readiness

Suitable space, water, vehicle access and a secure location for the plant.

Principal support

Willingness to review feasibility and, if appropriate, a future bank financing process.
